This class is perfect for you if you're completely new to the language and want to get the basics down to start speaking conversational Chinese.

Born in China and raised in Iowa, Minwei has been switching between English and Chinese since she was little and has always been passionate about languages and linguistics. Minwei was a Chinese teaching assistant during college at Williams College and also spent a few weeks teaching English in China. In the evenings when not teaching with Fluent City she can be found at the boxing gym, arranging flowers, catching up on a book, or trying to learn new languages herself. She's currently studying French and Japanese and loves the Fluent City community for its active exchange of languages, ideas, and new learnings! If you take a class with her, she'll likely try to arrange class outings and dinners because her Fluent City students have become some of her best friends in the city!
Minwei is AMAZING! I love her teaching methods. She is super helpful and I hope I get her for Chinese 2!!!
We love questions, almost as much as we love providing answers. Here are a few samplings of what we're typically asked, along with our responses
We know our students and teachers probably have holiday plans, so we do not hold classes on holidays. The full list of our skip dates is New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and a holiday break between Christmas and New Years.
Plans change—we get it. You have until 7 days before the start date of your Group Course to make any cancelations or same-level transfers. After that, there are no refunds under any circumstance. During the first 2 weeks of class, however, if you feel your level isn't the right fit, reach out to [email protected], and we will transfer you to a better fit, free of charge!
Most students do miss a class, or two, and we’re here to help ensure that you won’t fall behind despite any missed classes. We’ve set up our curriculum to make lessons easy to follow along outside of class, and your teacher will reach out to your group each week with a summary of materials, topics, and homework covered in-class.
All of our group classes meet for a total of 20 hours of live instruction. Some courses meet 2 hours once a week for 10 sessions, while others meet 1 hour twice a week for a total of 20 sessions.
