Not your mamma's language classes.

In 2007, French-language enthusiast Sam Maher started SamTeachesFrench, a company offering living room French classes in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Comments Sam on the original inception of Fluent City, “There was no place to take energetic and practical after-work French classes in New York. I wanted to teach a class that was the opposite of that horrible required class you're forced to take in high school.”

People dug this fresh approach and the company quickly outgrew a living room, expanding to multiple locations in NYC and rebranding as Fluent City. Time Out New York enthusiastically called Fluent City “affordable ten-week courses…taught by the kind of dreamy young cosmopolitan that got you interested in languages in the first place.” In 2014, our 115+ teachers taught 700 classes and 4000 hours of private lessons in ten languages.

Time Out New York wasn’t the only press to take note of this brand new style of teaching. Check out some of our press and students reviews below, and visit our Careers page to join our awesome team.
